Rhîan Pressley, RHS
We caught up with Rhîan Pressley at the end of the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.
How important is the Chelsea Flower Show in the RHS Calendar?
At the heart of the RHS is a vision to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place. Plants are vital to life and the benefits of growing plants are vast, from strengthening communities and building a more resilient society to supporting biodiversity, cooling cities, protecting against flooding, and improving air quality.
We inspire passion in horticulture and gardening among people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds, bringing health and happiness for us all.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show provides much-needed revenue and an international platform to support our vision and safeguard the future of horticulture.
How did you want your guests to feel when they entered the restaurant?
We wanted the design of the Ranelagh Restaurant in the grounds of the RHS Chelsea Flower show to bring the magic of the showground into the dining space.
By nature, many of the temporary structures we put in for the flower show often don’t offer the glamourous dining space that we wish to achieve. The space we worked on with Detail was key to the success of our show hosting the most important RHS lunch of the year, invitees included influential horticultural figures, celebrities, and many of our corporate partners.
We wanted to make the space to feel inviting, horticultural, and sophisticated in the daytime but also be flexible enough to welcome our prestigious guests to our Charity Gala evening held that night.
What was the feedback you received about the Secret Garden space that Detail created?
Guests commented on the space on entry saying that the lighting and installation of the flowers created a wonderful ‘Alice in Wonderland’ feeling as they dined beneath gently twirling silver blooms!
”We wanted the first impressions of the event to be exciting and magical, and we felt the styling provided by Detail achieved this and it was a very special evening.
The graphic styling featured throughout the space, how important is this aspect?
We loved the designs that were created for the whole event. From the beautiful invitations to the Director General’s lunch right through to the menus and throughout the space. It created a wonderful journey for our guests. The invitations were commented on as ‘something you would want to display on your mantelpiece’ which was exactly our aim.
We wanted the first impressions of the event to be exciting and we felt the graphic styling provided by Detail allowed us to do this.
